Fundraiser Gala Oct 29th for lung transplant program at Toronto General Hospital

Featured entertainment is Alex Pangman, double-lung recipient & one of Canada's leading jazz singers

Ezio Presutto received a single-lung transplant in 2010 at Toronto General Hospital and he and his family are showing their thanks and appreciation by organizing a fundraising gala, RESPIRO, for Saturday, October 29, 2011 at the Famèe Furlane Club 7065 Islington Ave. Woodbridge, ON, L4L 1V9 (Phone: 905.851.1166). (Ticket info below)

It promises to be an exciting and entertaining evening with a deluxe dinner, a silent auction and prizes, with the highlight being entertainment by Alex Pangman and her band. There will also be a DJ. Alex was given a second chance at life November 4, 2008, with a double-lung transplant, due to cystic fibrosis, at Toronto General Hospital. A three time National Jazz Award nominee, Alex is a favorite of jazz fans and dancers alike and has become one of Canada's leading classic jazz and traditional-swing vocalists. She uses her fame and talent to be an advocate for organ and tissue donation and works closely with Trillium Gift of Life Network in Ontario. Read Alex's transplant story. Alex's coming shows. One thing I've noticed since my lung transplant almost ten years ago is that organ recipients are so thankful for their 'Gift of Life' that they want to give back to the hospital in any way they can. I am pleased to promote this ambitious event that has already seen excellent ticket sales. Toronto General Hospital is one of the leading lung transplant centers in the world and their scientists have developed techniques, such as the Ex-Vivo Lung Perfusion System, that are having a global impact by saving lives wherever lung transplants are performed.

Daniela Romolo, Ezio's daughter, tells me that tickets are going very well with only a few tables still to be spoken for. The fundraiser is in support of Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation with proceeds to be allocated to the Lung Transplant Program. The organizers will also be promoting organ and tissue donation awareness.

Ezio Presutto and his children Marco, Daniela and Luciana along with a dedicated committee are sponsoring this fundraiser as a way of saying thanks to Toronto General Hospital's lung transplant program and the staff, about whom Ezio says, "I am extremely pleased with the doctors and nurses that took care of me. They were knowledgeable, dedicated, passionate and very sympathetic. Please consider attending our event October 29th or making a contribution. It will be greatly appreciated by the hospital, our committee and by me personally."

Your generosity can save or enhance the lives of up to fifty people with heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, pancreas and small intestine transplants (see allotransplantation). One tissue donor can help by donating skin, corneas, bone, tendon, ligaments and heart valves
Has your life been saved by an organ transplant? "Pay it forward" and help spread the word about the need for organ donation - In the U.S. another person is added to the national transplant waiting list every 11 minutes and 18 people die each day waiting for an organ or tissue transplant. Organs can save lives, corneas renew vision, and tissue may help to restore someone's ability to walk, run or move freely without pain. Life Begins with You
