Transplants in Ontario Year-to-Date

Here are the total transplants performed in the Province of Ontario this year to date followed by waiting list totals, as posted on the Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) web site. Check this site often as figures are updated daily.

At the Trillium site you will find more statistics and you can also compare this year's transplants to the 10-year history and get an idea of the progress that's being made in increasing the rate of organ donation. Why are there no stats for heart/liver?

Merv Sheppard said...

It's probably because this is such a rare procedure...there are only about 2 heart/liver transplants done in North America each year. The stats are included in the figures for each organ.

What is the status of anon living kidney and liver donations in Ontario?
I've donated bone marrow once in the past, but haven't been able to find any information as to a registry for living organ donors?

Canadian Blood Services has publicly launched the Living Donor Paired Exchange Registry this past February. It covers all of Canada.

For contact info in each Province
see my recent post and click on the donor brochure.

Kidney donors are very rare to find because usually donors must match the blood group.

Hi Merv,

Do we have any updated stats for the number of 'reconditioned lungs' supplied thru the 'ex vivo' program at TGH?

Hi Merv,
Could you throw some light on number of centers for liver transplant in Ontario. And the Male:Female ratio for Liver transplant in Ontario.

Liver transplant centers in Ontario:

London Health Sciences Centre: 2 Children’s Hospital and University Campus Hospital
London, Ontario.

Hospital for Sick Children,

I'm not sure about the female-male ratio.
